 Childrens Rights/Summary Report June 2012

Throughout the website on the World Forum Foundation the means of having numerous active programs as essential in educating and enhancing a child’s life.  Specific information that seemed of value and current I my professional development is the idea of advocating for Children’s Rights. Children’s Rights forum met in June 2012 in Moss, Norway which globally considered a passion for children and their initiative for  launching the rights for children and planning strategies for incorporating these goals. Their main goals were to ensure that each child’s voice is heard, approaching the matter in complexity,  seeing multiple perspective, being un-biased,  and being engaged for the work of the children.(Children’s Rights, 2012)  As educators, I feel that the overall need of listening to children can solve means of “controversy in the classroom. It cal alleviate certain dimensions and call for objective expression.

Thinking of this issue in a new way, allowed me to realize the overall importance of the child. There are tons of theories and practices that are used to help children, however if we do not listen to them then how are they able to express their own needs? Having this method of advocating Children’s Right’s are entirely significant because we all make up this world.

This information calls for viewpoints through economist, neuroscientist, and politicians due to pointing out ethical dilemmas surrounding children’s rights.  It is also apparent through creating historical evidence and timelines along with implementation and incorporating existing resources that will coincide with creating more programs under this category.(Children’s Rights, 2012)

This forum called for great information that pertained to advocating right’s for children, and making sure that their voices are heard. It called for recognizing and appreciating different ideas from participants involved and creating a means for creating consistence success of Children’s Rights.

Tackling Child Poverty

Poverty is an issue that is categorized all across the world. It is said that “600 Million children worldwide live in poverty”. (CHIP, n.d) This number is entirely shocking due to that fact of its enormous amount along with it s main trait of being children. Having un-biased community support groups, engaged individuals, and correct data are ways of reaching income is entirely essential for it to decline while gaining attentiveness and accountability.

Throughout the website there were numerous case studies and publications that point out the need to recognize child poverty. One quote that stood out was, “ to priorities, not ghettotise children.” (CHIP, n.d) This phrase is significant due to having outreach programs that put the child first and recognize their needs for future development. It un-ruffles the  condition and places a more “non-category” description on each child while making sure the child is not stereotyped or discriminated against. This phrase was enticing and allowed me to understand a new perception of thinking for those in need.

Another concept is to make sure that other individuals are aware of the growing condition of poverty. Engaging the audience is essential due to incorporating more individuals who want to join organizations while also “lending a helping hand”.  If more engaged individuals make more commitments then positive results can occur through increased transparency, accountability, and can even create more innovative ideas surfacing the concern of poverty.

Lastly, gathering correct and efficient data is also important. Having the right amount of data can correctly inform the public on every matter regarding poverty.  The collection of data is increasingly available; however the means of having quality standards and accurate translations have to be looked at closely. Individuals need to know correct, updated, data in order to actively participate and know what’s going on.

Diversity in the Classroom

The Global Exchange provides different services for young children that is in diverse settings.  The website also shares and reveals personal experiences with children of diverse cultures. They provided a podcast on different aspects regarding the population of children along with diverse settings and educational exposure.  They have tons of forums, discussions, and projects that correspond to the subject. In the newsletter, Children and Diversity: Enjoying Diversity, on childcare exchange, the issues regarding different cultures along with identities are expressed. It reveals practical ideas on celebrating diversity throughout the classroom through song and dance. This newsletter was enticing because it opens doors for different cultures throughout music. While being a former music teacher, I reveal that having this musical expression and tying it in with different cultures can broaden their spectrum of commemorate children of diversity. In the classroom it is important to embrace diversity so that others can share and learn from those experiences.
